Volunteer Positions

Volunteers are welcome and much needed in all of our programs.  We depend on the generosity of volunteers to help us facilitate our programs in health, housing, education & outreach, economic development, arts & culture, and environmental justice.  Volunteers can assist in any of our daily activities according to your interest and skills.  Below are descriptions of some volunteer positions available:

Arts & Culture Programming Volunteer – Want to become involved in our growing program to nurture and build community transformation in South Central Los Angeles?  Through our landmark marketplace and community hub – the Mercado La Paloma, our programming develops sustainable strategies that integrate art and culture to address affordable housing, health and human rights, economic development and environmental justice.  Volunteers will support our Project Coordinator with one or more of the following tasks:  1) Assist with posting open calls to artists for artwork submissions to exhibits; 2) Navigate artists’ websites to check for artwork appropriate for exhibits; 3) Keep communication with artists during submission and installation process; 4) Assist with receiving artwork, labeling and compiling and printing artist bios and photos; 5) Assist with artwork installation; 6) Post cultural events, art exhibitions and performances on social media platforms; 7) Develop flyers, postcards, posters and other publicity materials; 8) Assist with acquiring supplies for events; 9) Some evenings and/or weekends required.  For more information, please contact Yadira Arevalo, Project Coordinator, at yadira@esperanzacommunityhousing.org.

Social Media Volunteer – Do you tweet, blog, post, check‐in or hash tag on a daily basis? Esperanza is seeking mobile volunteers to support our social media outreach. We are building our online presence through various social media tools and are in search of independent volunteers to help build our audience by retweeting, sharing and reposting our organizational messages.  Please contact ivy@esperanzacommunityhousing.org if you are interested in a Social Media Volunteer position.

Accounting Volunteer – Volunteer wanted to provide transactional and administrative services relating to the execution of accounting functions and the maintenance of accounting paperwork, including billing, full cycle of accounts receivable, cash receipts, and collections, inventory of furniture and equipment, compliance, contract reports. Accounting assistants may use manual and automated accounting systems. Knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on excel is needed. Time: A minimum commitment of 3 months for at least 4 hours per week during M‐F 8am­‐5pm office hours. Training: No experience necessary as full training is provided.
