The Mercado's 7th Anniversary! |

| The Mercado Celebrated its 7th Anniversary on April 17th, 2007. We weren't just celebrating seven years of supporting low-income entrepreneurs from our neighborhood -- we also celebrated the installation of our new heating and air conditioning system! Our partners, sponsors, promotoras, and tenants came to the Mercado for an evening of great food provided by the vendors. Of course no Esperanza event would be complete without dancing, and surely enough, once the plates were licked clean, the bodies started moving! Thank you to all of our supporters and the attendees. And of course, thank you to the vendors of the Mercado La Paloma ! |
It was a wonderful event, and you can check out the photos here . The Mercado La Paloma is Esperanza’s engine for economic development, wealth and opportunity and the center of its economic development program area. The Mercado is a former sweatshop that Esperanza bought and converted into a marketplace for entrepreneurs in the neighborhood to start their businesses. The Mercado has directly contributed to the economic prosperity of our neighborhood by:
• providing entrepreneurial opportunities for 14 vendors • creating over 100 jobs. • providing affordable rental space to seven non-profits. • providing an accessible venue for community events.
For the past seven years, families have had the opportunity to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality at the Mercado La Paloma. | |
