“Thank you so much for your help, Consuelo. The information you gave us about how to keep my son’s asthma under control and how to prepare my own cleaning products without harmful chemicals was very useful. The air purifier has been of great help for my son Abraham, and we were also able to learn how to use the inhaler correctly. All this information has greatly improved the health of my son. I’m very grateful for the Healthy Homes Program, and more than anything for you Consuelo. I hope this program keeps helping families. Thank you so much, and God bless those who have made this possible.”

Success Story 3
One of our families had a son with severe asthma symptoms who would wake up several times during the night. During our home assessment, we discovered that their old windows—which featured glass louvers—did not close properly, allowing drafts, pests, and pollen from the building's central courtyard to enter the home. We submitted an advocacy letter, and the property management replaced the old windows.
A few months later, the family's metal door also began to fall apart. We requested assistance once again, and although the door was not completely replaced, the holes were repaired. The family expressed their gratitude, and since then, the child's asthma control has continued to improve.

I want to thank you for helping me with my asthma. I moved into my home about a year ago and did not understand why my asthma was getting worse. Through your program, I learned that the carpet in my home was part of the problem. There was still dog hair left from the previous tenant, and it was making me sick.
Thanks to your program, I received a vacuum that helped clean up the dog hair. I was also supported with a letter of advocacy, and because of that, my landlord finally agreed to remove the carpet.
Thank you to the Healthy Breathing Program!

Success Stories from our Promotoras
Success Story 1
One client had hazardous living conditions that were exacerbating their asthma including the windows in their home no longer opened which prevented proper ventilation, and the showerhead produced excessive steam, creating high humidity that worsened respiratory issues. After receiving a letter of advocacy from our program, the client followed up with their landlord, who promptly repaired the windows and replaced the showerhead. These interventions significantly improved the client’s living environment and asthma management, and the client expressed deep satisfaction with the results.

Success Story 5 [TRANSLATED]
One of my clients with asthma needed support in repairing her CP and in repairing her roof which provided [necessary] filtration. I got in contact with the project manager of her building and both of these items were addressed. She was appreciative of my visit and the follow up we conducted with the manager to ensure he addressed the concerns.
She was also very grateful for the educational presentations that were given to her about her asthma, as well as the PPE that the Healthy Homes Program provided her.

Success Story 2
Another client began experiencing increased asthma flares after moving into a new apartment. Upon investigation, we discovered that the apartment’s old carpet retained pet hair from the previous tenant, triggering asthma attacks. Through our program, the client received a HEPA filter vacuum, which immediately helped reduce allergens, and we provided a letter of advocacy to the landlord. The landlord then approved the removal of the old carpet, dramatically improving the client’s asthma symptoms and overall quality of life.

Success Story 4
We also worked with a client who had just moved into a new home and immediately began experiencing frequent asthma attacks. During our visit and educational session, we discovered that the old carpeting still contained pet dander from the previous tenant's animal, which was triggering her symptoms. After submitting an advocacy letter, the landlord agreed to remove the carpeting. Since then, the client's asthma symptoms have improved significantly.
